The Health and Care Worker Visa enables professionals with a medical background to apply for eligible employment with the NHS, NHS supplier or within adult social care.

The impact of COVID19 has resulted in an update to the Visa rules. This has resulted in a temporary extension to the eligibility criteria for a Health and Care Worker VISA.

The standard visa has the following criteria:
• be a qualified doctor, nurse, health professional or adult social care professional
• work in an eligible health or social care job
• work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
• have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
• be paid a minimum salary – how much depends on the type of work you do

The temporary measures introduced on the 15th February 2022 has extended the job titles and conditions to increase the diversity of jobs applicable to the visa.

The pandemic has had an adverse effect on the resources within the social care sector. There is currently a shortage of staff and following recommendations, the VISA requirements have been amended to include the following roles to be elligble for a Health and Care Worker visa:

Home Carers

Home Care Assistants

Support Workers (Nursing Home)
